After a Saturday morning of configuring dedicated servers I finally got to see lion king at the lyceum theatre. If you have not seen I truly recommend it.  The stage transitions are fantastic as are the costumes and set. Great musical experience.

It was a canopy wedding near a lake at the Crown Plaza hotel in Marley/Slough/Henley (choose your pick). Though the weather was not the best (this is what British Summer is), the atmosphere was lovely, the colours of the many outfits worn by proud friends and relatives of the bride and groom overshadowed grey skies.

I bumped into our very own Happy2host client Nike Jemiyo. She played and sang the song to accompany the bride down the aisle and what a great job she did. I also met Christiana of Christianarants.com and founder of The Tip Online. She also graced us with her musical skills on the grand piano as guests were leaving the canopy -she just had to get on it!

Its was a marvelous wedding and I was grateful to be a part of such a beautiful occasion. Check out the pictures I snapped below.

We had to approach this in such a way that was different from how we would any other digital work we do. Usually we’d use wire-framing software to build layouts of a page, but for this particular project, which has next to nothing to do with the website, we found ourselves roaming in no mans land.

There was a brief which simply stated that they wanted a yellow shield/crest with the letters ADS across it. Usually with such a brief we’d be overjoyed as we had free reign to explore the numerous possible concepts that we could create from using as simple an attribute as the projects name. But of course, for a first professional logo design, naturally you’d want a novel style brief explaining pretty much everything.

I prepared for war. A notepad, music (Bonobo – We Could Forever) and an innocent smoothie (pineapple and coconut – oh my gosh!) and off I went.

I was lead to simply sketch out crest shaped items on paper, which didn’t take me long as visual concepts, quite quickly, make their way into my mind.  Typically, a mixture of curved edges and straight lines were what I envisaged the outline/shape of a crest to be formed of. One particular example that flloats in my mind is the logo of Sacred Heart School in Camberwell. ‘In Hoc Signo’ embedded in the embroidered red and yellow crest.

I then decided to add a sash or ribbon on either side to present a uniformed look. An effect that would give the whole image a depth to it. Within these ribbons I discovered the perfect place to fit their strapline ‘Aim high, Dream big, Stay fly’.

Developing the final idea in digital format did help in invoking further ideas as the actual concept become visually-tangible.

We were happy with the final product and so were the client. A job done well is a job well done.

Superdry. Japan. Tokyo. Fashion. This I love.

The film itself was pretty good. Yes, there were scenes of chit-chat-chit-chat-come-on-get-to-it.. but when it got it… you best believe it got to it real good. Very cool animated scenes (the CGI was outstanding) coupled with a collection of your favourite childhood heroes made the film a worthwhile-watch.

If you haven’t seen it yet, I implore you to wait til AFTER the credits have gone, you’re in for a little surprise. Fight the temptation to Google it, haha. Out of the full house of people that saw the film, a good handful obeyed the common law of the cinema – do NOT leave before the credits have finished. Take note.

Summer’s fast approaching if indeed it has not already arrived and left without a trace, I’m in need of a fresh pair of sunshades. The old school glasses in the form of Ray Bans seem to be the follow fashion eye-wear of the moment and have been for a long while now. They look pretty cool, and I’d definitely rock them nicely ;). Catch myself, Mr Cool in my smart attire walking into Starbucks with my shades on.. Cappuccino please.

Musical Genius.

Whenever possible, we like to engage in face to face conversation (no, not Skype) with our clients at least once, just so that we can get to know the people behind the company/person we’re building a site for. I’m pretty sure that they’d like to know the people behind the company that they’re going to be entrusting with their project too.

How else are we going to buy you that beverage? :D
